A Lettter from our President:

Violence still a major problem in Brewerytown...

RE: February 2nd, 2009

While sitting on my sofa, near my front window, there were sounds in the distance.  I turned down my television set so I could listen better.  Pap, pap…, pap, pap…, pap.  I said to myself, “that sounds like gunfire.”  It was somewhere between 10:00 and 11:00 o’clock if I’m not mistaken.  A few minutes later I saw flashing lights go pass my front window.  Still hoping that it is some type of miscellanous fire or maybe even a firecracker discharging of a weapon for fun.   The lights let one know that there was something wrong.

Coming into my office the next morning, a question was asked of me, one I didn’t want to hear, Did you hear about the shooting last night?  Of course I said I hear the shots but was not sure of the outcome.  It was the talk of the neighborhood all day.   Turns out to be a very well known young man was shot.  Too often is it happening in Brewerytown and we are losing to many young black men to senseless violence that can not be explained other than foolishness.

The area of note was 28th & master street.
